As of 2024, China has a total of 112 border ports, including 106 operational ports and 6 ports that have been approved but not opened. Among them, the China-Russia and China-North Korea borders have the most ports, with 23 China-Russia ports and 20 China-North Korea ports, accounting for 38.4% of the total; the China-Myanmar, China-Mongolia, China-Vietnam, China-Kazakhstan and other borders have more than 10 ports, totaling 58.
According to China's traditional division, border areas can be divided into the northeastern border, the northern border, the northwestern border, the Tibetan border and the southwestern border. Among them, the northeast region has the largest number of ports, with a total of 49, accounting for 43.75% of the total number of China's border ports; the southwest region has 33 ports, accounting for 29.46%; the northwest region has a large number of ports, 20, accounting for 17.86%; the northern region and Tibet have fewer ports, only 5 each.

Yunnan Province: Baoshan City, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Lincang City, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Pu'er City, Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture.
Heilongjiang Province: Mudanjiang City, Jixi City, Shuangyashan City, Jiamusi City, Hegang City, Heihe City, Yichun City, Greater Khingan Range.
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region: Hulunbuir City, Xing'an League, Xilingol League, Baotou City, Bayannur City, Alxa League.
